GREENCYCLE is Amorepacific’s eco-friendly CSR program designed to promote green lifestyle that values life in coexistence with nature. Our main activities include not only recycling used cosmetics bottles collected from our brand shops, but also include “upcyling” various by-products produced through manufacturing processes into beautiful artworks.
As of 2020, AmorePacific has collected a total of 2,203 tons of containers for cosmetic products, as it is exploring new recycling techniques to prevent those containers from damaging our environment. Our customers have participated in the Greencycle initiative with utmost enthusiasm. To date, AmorePacific has launched new projects by using recycled materials, such as breaking down the raw materials of glass and plastic containers to manufacture new products, and upcycling used bottles into flower pots, candles, and artwork. In 2019, AmorePacific signed a partnership agreement with TerraCycle, a global recycling company, to recycle at least 100 tons of empty plastic bottles each year for the next three years. By 2025, it hopes to recycle 100% of its empty bottles.
Last year (2020), AmorePacific donated benches made with a material known as “super concrete” (UHPC: Ultra High Performance Concrete) and empty plastic bottles, to the Chollipo Arboretum and the district of Jongno-gu in Seoul. Moreover, AmorePacific worked with four artists to help them create benches by using recycled empty bottles, all of which were showcased near the Amore Store in Gwanggyo.
AmorePacific also used approximately 1.3 tons of empty plastic bottles to manufacture plastic cartons for its Chuseok gift sets, and used its UHPC and empty plastic bottle recycling technology to manufacture the flooring materials and surfaces for various equipment and fixtures at AmorePacific stores in the Lotte Duty-Free Store (COEX Store) and the Hyundai Duty-Free Store (World Trade Center Store), etc. To celebrate “Resource Recycling Day” on September 5, AmorePacific showcased an interactive media art installation titled “1652 Summer Lights,” which was made with 1,652 empty bottles sent in by AmorePacific customers at the Sejong Center. The company is currently engaged in a variety of initiatives aimed at overcoming the limitations of recycled plastic cosmetic product bottles.
